Who We Are
BrewCraft CZ is a small, independent editorial team based in Prague. We started this project in 2023 after years of working in the Czech specialty coffee industry — as baristas, roasters, and equipment reviewers. Our goal is simple: provide practical, accurate coffee information without the hype.
The coffee world is full of marketing claims and influencer recommendations driven by sponsorships. We take a different approach. Every brewing method comparison, equipment review, and recipe on this site is based on our own testing. When we recommend a grinder, we have used it daily for at least eight weeks. When we describe a cafe, we have visited it multiple times.
Our Expertise
Our lead writer, Tomas, holds a Q Grader certification from the Coffee Quality Institute and has worked as a head barista at two of Prague's recognized specialty cafes. Marketa, our culture writer, has covered the Czech and Central European food and drink scene for regional publications since 2017.
We consult publicly available research from the Specialty Coffee Association, peer-reviewed studies from journals like the Journal of Food Science, and technical data published by equipment manufacturers. When we cite a statistic or claim, we link directly to the source.
How We Work
Our editorial process follows three principles:
- Test before writing. We brew every recipe multiple times, measure extraction yields with a refractometer, and blind-taste results before publishing.
- No paid placements. Equipment mentions are based on merit. We purchase all products ourselves or borrow from local distributors with no editorial strings attached.
- Update regularly. Coffee equipment and the Czech cafe scene evolve quickly. We review all content quarterly and update pricing, availability, and recommendations as needed.
Our Sources
We rely on the following authoritative resources for factual accuracy:
- Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) — industry standards for water quality, extraction, and grading
- International Coffee Organization (ICO) — global production and consumption statistics
- Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) — Q Grading protocols and quality benchmarks
- Wikipedia: Coffee — verified historical and cultural references
